a brief biography
Alex George is a writer and a lawyer. He was born in England, but presently lives in Columbia, Missouri.
To date he has published four novels: Working it Out (1999), Before Your Very Eyes (2000), Love You Madly (2002) and Wonderful You (2005). In addition to being published by HarperCollins in the UK, his books have also been translated and published in France, Germany and Italy. For more details on those books, go here.
He has recently completed his most recent book, worldwide rights for which have recently been purchased by Amy Einhorn Books, an imprint of Penguin/Putnam. Heaven knows exactly when publication will be – there is some rewriting still to be done and it rather depends how quickly he does it. And please don’t ask about the title. What it will end up being, nobody knows.
Alex has been named as one of Britain’s top ten “thirtysomething” novelists by the Times of London, and was also named as the Independent on Sunday’s “face to watch” for fiction in its Fresh Talent feature.
Alex read law at Oxford University and worked for eight years as a corporate lawyer in London and Paris. He moved to the United States in 2003, and re-qualified as a US attorney. He now runs his own law firm in Columbia, Missouri. Go here to visit its website.
For reasons too complicated to go into here, Alex is also the president of Big Surf Waterpark at the Lake of the Ozarks, the most popular family attraction at one of Missouri’s best-known vacation destinations. As a result, he spends a great deal of his time worrying about the weather and clowning about in a shark suit. Video evidence is available here.
Alex has been married to his wife, Christina, since 1998. They have two children, Hallam and Catherine. His hobbies include listening to obscure jazz albums, playing his saxophone, and cooking (and eating) complicated meals. He is a board member of the following non-profit organizations: Voluntary Action Center, Show-Me Habitat for Humanity, and the We Always Swing Jazz Series.
